Sir Owen Aisher

Commodore 1960-1964

Owen Aisher became Commodore, in place of Cyril Windeler, who was then made Honorary Admiral.

Owen was born in 1900 and headed up the family firm of Marley. Under his leadership, Marley pioneered many new products, including thermoplastic floor tiles, vinyl sheet flooring, plastic pipes, and guttering and baths. He turned his father's fledgling business into a highly successful multinational company.

He was knighted by the Queen in 1981 and was known as Sir Owen. A remarkable man and a very successful businessman. He was also a very successful yachtsman, being voted "Yachtsman of the Year in 1958". All of his yachts were called Yeoman and numbered. Prince Philip was a regular helmsman when visiting during Cowes Week.

During his term as Commodore, the Club was rebuilt to its present form.

Sir Owen Aisher was The ISC Admiral 1966-1993.
