John Wroath

Commodore 1977-1979

John H Wroath was the youngest of three brothers, and spent his earliest years in South Moulton in Devon, coming to the Island as a schoolboy when his family moved to Cowes. After education at Ryde School, he was articled in the legal profession and qualified as a solicitor in 1947 when he also joined the ISC.

John's sailing was for many years in partnership with Chris Hall. Together they owned and sailed the X-class No. 17, Xylotox, racing in that very competitive class with much success, and in 1963 with John Belcher as third crew, they raced Tiny Mitchell's 5.5 Bjarne with good results including a bronze medal in the World Championships in Poole.

John's career finished with the title 'His Honour Judge Wroath'.
