John Gretton Junior

Commodore 1890-1892

After the death of the General, the committee began to look round for an important gentleman to serve as its next Commodore. They had this idea that he must be a man with a fine title. After much searching the Vice Commodore, John Gretton Junior, who was later to become Lord Gretton, was made Commodore.

The AGM in February 1891 reports that neither the Commodore nor the Vice Commodore we present. It would appear that these gentlemen only came to Cowes in the summer season.

In October of 1891, The Commodore, Mr Gretton resigned his office.

He was the owner of a beautiful schooner Modwena.
