John Gretton Junior
Commodore 1890-1892
Commodore 1890-1892
After the death of the General, the committee began to look around for an important gentleman to serve as its next Commodore. They thought he must be a man with a fine title. After much searching, the Vice Commodore, John Gretton Junior, who was later to become Lord Gretton, was made Commodore.
In February 1891, the AGM reported that neither the Commodore nor the Vice Commodore were present. It would appear that these gentlemen only came to Cowes in the summer season.
In October of 1891, The Commodore, Mr Gretton, resigned his office.
He was the owner of a beautiful schooner, the Modwena.
